First position in font blanca
Kilian Jornet crossed the finish line in first place in the Individual Race, which put a start to the 2016 ski mountaineering World Cup. The race was held in Arcalís (Andorra) and Jornet, crossed the finish line ten seconds ahead of Italian Michele Boscacci, with a final time of 1:23: 48,415. The third place was for Swiss Werner Marti.
The start of the race was delayed to 11:15 am due to bad weather conditions, and the route was also modified: participants had to face four ascents from Coma de Arcalis to Portellas.
‘The route was finally modified for safety reasons and also due to bad weather conditions, and so the race has become very physical, without any technical stretches. I started off at a very fast pace from the very beginning and it was a very demanding race throughout,’ explained the Catalan athlete. Jornet was in second place nearly all the way but managed to overtake Boscacci on the last round. ‘I had trouble descending quickly at first. The wax on my skis was not the right one, but as the race progressed, I performed better and in the last climb I gave the best of myself to achieve a victory,’ said the Catalan athlete.
Jornet starts his ski mountaineering season with this race. He will participate in the Vertical Race of Font Blanca tomorrow, a race that will start at 10:40 in Arinsal.
