    Today

I consider myself a 360º mountain athlete because I like the versatility to be able to be in the mountains every day. I like running, racing in either ski mountaineering or trail running, crossings, climbing summits, chaining peaks...

Now I live in Norway with my family where I continue to enjoy the mountains, trying to seek more versatility than excellence always in a light, simple and dynamic way.

I like being able to contribute with my experiences to inspire people to get outside and discover the mountains. It should be by respecting nature and being aware that it's our duty to preserve and protect the environment where we live.

    The hardest summit

In 2020 the Kilian Jornet Foundation is born. This will be the hardest and most important summit I need to climb. Together, we want to work to preserve mountain environments.

I have been climbing mountains and crossing glaciers my whole life, and I could realize the devastating effects of climate change. We all have a role in reversing this tendency and ensure that the next generations are able not only to play in the mountains but to live on a healthy planet.

Injuries that have made me grow

The thirties and the beginning of 2018 are marked by a bad streak: two injuries, one on both shoulders and the other a fracture of the fibula, move me away from the sport. However, I return to the competition in July: I win the Mont-Blanc Marathon and I break the legendary record of Billy Bland in the iconic Bob Graham Round.

In March, I release 'Path to Everest', the film that narrates the intimate face of my double ascent to the Everest without oxygen. The culmination of "Summits of my life" has an international echo. At the same time, I achieve to complete the first ski descent of the Troll Wall, in Norway, the Europe's steepest wall with a incline of 1.000 meters.

    Double Everest

In May 2017 I completed the Summits of My Life project with a double ascent of Everest, alone, without fixed ropes and without oxygen. It was the last summit in the project which had included mountains such as the Cervino, Aconcagua, Denali and Mont Blanc. Those five years led to the book Summits of My Life, dreams and challenges in the mountains and four films: A Fine Line, Déjame Vivir, Langtang and Path to Everest which reflected on all these challenges as well as new dreams.

Langtang: a sporting and a human challenge

In the spring of 2015 we began preparations for the Everest expedition the last of the Summits of My Life challenges. Shortly before we set off, however, Nepal was rocked by a powerful earthquake.

We decided to set aside the sporting challenge but to go anyway to lend a hand. Out of this came the film Langtang and also the challenge of raising €60,000 to help to rebuild what was one of the worst affected areas.

    First lesson on Everest

In the summer of 2016 I faced a big challenge. I wanted to take on Everest for the first time in a pure and minimalist way. Bad weather conditions during the last stretch prevented us from reaching the summit but we learnt a lot ahead of the next expedition.

In spite of spending a lot of time in the high mountains I continued to compete. I won the Hardrock 100 for the third time, Zegama for the eighth and the Pierra Menta mountain ski race for the fourth time, among others.

I also decided to move to Norway where i discovered a whole new place to play.

Realising my dreams with Summits of My Life

In 2013 I tried to find time in between competitions to continue with Summits of My Life. I set new speed records on Mont Blanc and the Cervino, a summit I'd dreamed of since I was a child. In 2014 I took on the tough conditions on Denali (6,186m), the highest peak in North America and also Aconcagua (6,962m), South America's highest. I set new records on both and continued to learn about high mountains.

That same year I took part in 14 races. I was delighted to win the Zegama for the seventh time and to take on the Hardrock100, which I'd always wanted to do. That year I won the triple crown in the Wrold Cup of Skyrunning, Ultrarunning and the Vertical Kilometre.

In 2014 I and Emelie Forsberg also decided to organise our own race: the Tromsö Skyrace, a technical and demanding race, which is the kind we like.

    Summits of My Life

By 2012 I'd run all the races I'd hoped to compete in so I was looking for new dreams. Out of this came a new adventure, Summits of My Life. With this project I aimed to set new speed records on some of the planet's most iconic mountains. The project is based on my values and my way of taking on the mountains in a purist and minimalist manner. The first involved crossing the Mont Blanc massif. From this as well as from the experience of my first trip to the Himalayas emerged my second book, The Invisible Frontier.

  • img

    Run or die

All of these experiences inspired me to write the book Run or Die in 2011. Meanwhile, I won several races such as the Mont Blanc Ultra Trail, Zegama, Mt Kinabalu, Western States and the triple crown in the world mountain ski cup (vertical race, individual and overall).

    Kilian's Quest

In 2009 I began Kilian's Quest which over the next four years led me to face long-distance challenges and to discover new sensations. Among other things, I set a new speed record for Kilimanjaro, the GR20 in Corsica, the Tahoe Rim Trail and the Transpirenaica.

  • img

    Ultra Trail del Mont Blanc

At the age of 20 I set myself a goal: the Mont Blanc Ultra Trail, a legendary race. I trained hard and won, even though I was the youngest in the race. This victory was accompanied by the Zegama, Giir de Mont and Dolomiti Skyrace which gave me the chance to compete around the world.

  • img

    The first victories

In 2007 I started to take a more active part in mountain skiing races and championships and trail running all around the world. I won my first Skyrunning championship and finished near the front in most races. The list of races I dreamed about running in was getting shorter.

  • img

    A decisive year

A 17, having finished high school, I decided to move to Font Romeu in the French Cerdanya with the aim of studying STAPS, the equivalent of the Physical Education School, so that I could train and study at the same time. That year I won my first world championship mountain skiing race in the Vertical Race at Cadete. I discovered mountain racing thanks to people in the mountain skiing world. It's the ideal way to train in summer and not fall behind in competitions and that's how I got involved in this world.

  • img

    Becoming a passion

At the age of 13 I enrolled in the Mountain Ski Technique Centre and there I started to train and to take part in competitions in a more serious and organised fashion.

  • img

    A childhood in the mountains

The mountains and nature are a part of me. I was born in a refuge 2,000m up in the mountains (Cap del Rec, in the Cerdanya) where I practised mountain and snow sports with my family. Unconsciously, and as if it were a game, since I was little I became imbued with a love of the mountains and learnt about sport.
