Double win in font blanca
Perfect weekend for Kilian Jornet in Andorra, with a double victory in the Ski Mountaineering World Cup in Font Blanca. The athlete achieved a victory in the Vertical Race today, after winning the Individual Race yesterday. Jornet has completed the vertical kilometre with a time of 00:26:50, ahead of Rémi Bonnet, second, and Michele Boscacci, third.
The weather was kind to skiers in the Vertical Race today, an event in which they had to climb a technical stretch of 730m of altitude difference. "The race was very tough. The legs were suffering from the effort in the Individual race of yesterday. Boscacci set off at a very fast pace and so I stayed close to him and in the second part of the race I gave the best of myself attacking to the full. Seeing that Boscacci was slightly behind but Rémi Bonnet was very strong, I had to attack until the finish line," Jornet explains.
With the successes of this first weekend of the Ski Mountaineering World Cup, Jornet ranks as interim leader in the Individual, Vertical and Over all rankings. "I am very satisfied and very please with the results of this weekend, two victories and also close to home".
The competition continues and the next stop on the Ski Mountaineering World Cup will be the weekend of 30th and 31st January in Italy with the Valtellina Orobie, where the disciplines of Individual Race and Sprint race will be contested.
