Kilian Jornet retired from the UTMB this morning close to the Bonatti refuge (km 92.1) after he suffered an allergic reaction and stomach pains caused by a bee sting three hours before the start. 

“Well, this UTMB didn’t finish as I expected. I was feeling very good, I was in good shape but some hours before the start a bee stung me and I am allergic to bee stings so I suffered an allergic reaction. We worked with my physiotherapist and with a doctor so that I’d be able to run. It seemed that it was working kind of OK, I just had some troubles in my stomach because of the medication. But after Courmayeur I had a big allergic reaction and I thought that It was not safe to continue and I decided to stop. Anyway that’s what’s great in racing, until race day nothing is written”.
