World vertical race champion

Today Kilian Jornet has been proclaimed world champion in the vertical race category after being the fastest at the Mondolé Ski Alp (Italy), the last event on the mountain ski World Cup calendar. It’s another trophy to add the many he already has and tomorrow he may add one more when he competes in the individual category, which he hopes to win for the fourth time.

"I was a little bit worried about fatigue after Pierra Menta but I have felt strength enough in today's test. The feeling could not have been better and I am very happy to win also the World Cup. A regularity trophy is always nice ", Jornet said.

Jornet was fastest in an explosive race over 2.9km with a 700m climb. He completed the course in 28'05", 21 seconds faster than the German Anton Palzer and 49 from the Swis Rémi Bonnet, who finished second and third respectively.

It was his third vertical race victory of the season after winning at Font Blanca and the Alpinski. Jornet scored 300 points overall, 80 more than Bonet 115 more than Palzer, who were second and third respectively in the overall classification.

Jornet completes his mountain ski World Cup season tomorrow when he competes in the individual category and hopes to complete a golden double in the top world competition.

He is well placed to win this category as he is overall leader on 380 points after winning at Font Blanca, Transcavallo and Valetellina Orobie and coming second at the Alpiniski.

But it won’t be easy, as the Italian Michele Boscacci is close behind him on 320 points and the German Anton Palzer on 240. Tomorrow’s race is the decider in the world championship
